Donate Your Homemade Masks!
Family Health La Clinica is engaged in a risk mitigation project to slow the spread of COVID-19 amongst Wisconsin agriculture workers. These workers are arriving to our state to ensure the continuation of our food supply and we are assisting agriculture employers with education, testing, and housing and worksite recommendations to keep employers, workers, and communities safe. If you would like to help, please consider making handmade fabric masks to donate to this project.
This is a statewide project and there is a lot of need. Agriculture workers labor over long hours, often exposed to heat and other elements where masks can become easily soiled. It is important for workers to have access to clean masks to change out when needed so that this strategy can remain effective in slowing the spread of the virus. Since homemade fabric masks are reusable, they can be washed, dried and used again, making them preferable to disposable masks that are for single-use only and can be quite costly. Your donation truly means everything in this moment. We are accepting any mask type, but have provided some resources below for your information.
Donations will be accepted at any of our five locations during regular business hours (attention: Lisa Kilawee):
400 S Townline Rd in Wautoma
880 Herriot Dr in Mauston
207 S University Ave in Beaver Dam
302 W Lake St in Friendship
3504 E Maria Dr in Stevens Point
We ask that all masks be laundered prior to donating to avoid potential contamination. Please wash on your appliance’s hot wash cycle and use the hottest dry cycle, then put the masks immediately into a clean garbage bag. You may leave them anonymously, but a note with your name and contact information is appreciated.
If you would like to help but are unable to assemble homemade masks, please consider a tax-deductible monetary donation in support of our health center local to your Central Wisconsin community. Any amount helps and would be greatly appreciated. If you’re interested in donating to Family Health La Clinica Community Health Center, please contact Laura Waldvogel, CEO, at 1-920-787-5514 x290 or Lisa Kilawee, Director of Strategic Community Engagement, 1-920-787-5514 x251.
